Ken Roberts
Before you begin any new business venture you should conduct extensive research into that industry. Although it may seem tedious at the time, research can prevent you from spending a lot of money on a business that never had a chance of making you financially independent. Ken Roberts, a self-proclaimed commodities expert offers many courses on trading commodities and most of what he provides to “students” is helpful. Unfortunately what Roberts does not provide is an accurate portrayal of just how risky the commodities market truly is. The risk of trading commodities is even riskier when you’ve only been given a brief overview of the industry in which you’re investing a great portion of your savings. The cost of the courses offered by Ken Roberts would be considered reasonable, if he had bothered to make his students aware of the fact that even with a huge investment making money in the commodities market is almost impossible. Rather than being up front and honest about his “money making opportunity”, Mr. Roberts spends much of his time convincing amateurs that they can do this just as well as the pros. While this may be true in some circumstances, a few hours of information in no way prepares you to make the same decisions as a trader in the business for years. Most commodities traders will agree that most of the information received by Ken Roberts can just as easily be gathered at your local library or bookstore, but what you can’t get is the sales pitch to weasel your money out of your wallet and into his. Roberts’ plan begins with what he calls paper trading, which is basically commodities homework that allows you to track the market with fake money to see how well you can trade. The idea behind this is that you can practice paper trading until you feel comfortable enough doing so to trade with actual money. Again, paper trading is something you must do to learn the ropes and you don’t need to pay a high sum for a course to begin paper trading. While I guess I should commend Ken Roberts for letting his pupils know up front that most commodities traders will lose more than 90% of the time, his claims that he offers information that “other guys don’t know” is just plain false. These claims are common with schemes like this; someone always claims to have the inside scoop and they offer it to you at a fraction of its actual “worth”. The truth of the matter is that if you really want to get into commodities you need to learn enough about the market (over years, not days) so that you have enough money to sustain the hits and take advantage when the time is right. Ken Roberts’ commodities trading system is mostly hype, and barely scratches the surface of the many depths of commodities trading. If you think the information Roberts offers is complicated, commodities trading isn’t for you. Besides there are many other ways to improve your wealth than by getting involved in an industry in which you have no experience or prior knowledge.
