Sports Arbitrage
Sports arbitrage, put simply is the practice of placing bets at a sporting event and returning a profit, no matter the outcome of the actual event.
I guess the slang term for this would be covering all your bets, or hedging.
What makes it so simple is the mathematics. If all the steps are followed
correctly, this technique will return a profit every time, even if it is
minimal. There has been some question to the legality of this, but it is legal in places where gambling is legal, and done in such a way as to be well within the letter of the law. It might look like its shady, or illegal, but it is not. Sports arbitrage is not for everyone, experts claim. For the process to be truly profitable, a lot has to go into it. For it to work, there can be few mistakes if any. It is a fluid moneymaker, opportunities come and go quickly. This is not without its risk, there is always the chance that mistakes will be made, these things will happen. There are several sites that offer help with this moneymaking venture. That does not mean you cannot do this yourself. The key is to place the right bets with the right bookmakers. An important thing to remember is that different states have different laws regarding gambling, online and otherwise. Technically this is gambling, albeit a stripped down sterilized form of gambling, but still all state laws apply. So researching your state’s particular laws is recommended. Here is a simple explanation of the process. I say simple because I do not fully understand it myself. In my example I will use a sporting event with two possible outcomes, a boxing match. When choosing an event, it is important to look at the bookmakers odds for or against a particular outcome. So I would look for two bookmakers, one covering the favorite to win, and one betting on the underdog. I place bets of slightly different amounts with both books. I’ll bet a little higher on the favorite, or guaranteed outcome, and bet lower on the underdog, looking to make up the difference on the odds. One of the two is bound to win either way. Either way I get back what I put into it. This is a simple explanation but I hope I was able to show you how it was done. Any moneymaking opportunity is only worth what you put into it. The same goes for sports arbitrage. This is not a get rich quick scheme; you cannot turn yourself into an instant millionaire with sports arbitrage. Most traders look to make back what they put in plus maybe another two to three percent profit, depending on where bets are placed, and the number of them. On the average an investment of two thousand dollars would return a profit of three hundred a month. The numbers that come back get bigger as the amount put in gets bigger, but what makes this interesting is that your initial bet is always covered.
