It’s a great way to practice before really getting out there and dealing with strangers. Practice your sales pitches and telephone demeanour on the people you know. Be mindful of the kinds of things that you yourself would want to ask a travel agent if you wanted to book a holiday. Support groups for home-based travel agents encourage beginners to tune into the needs of the potential customer. Ask about what they’d like to do on their holidays, like whether or not they like golf or swimming or outdoor activities. Even if they don’t ask for it, suggest a resort offering the facilities where they can enjoy their hobbies. Expounding the benefits of a package is also important. It’s those things that meet the needs of the customers to their satisfaction and convinces them that they’ve made the right decision. Like all home-based businesses, success depends on the time and effort invested in making the business work. What you put in is what you get out – it’s a cliché, but it’s true. Yes, overhead costs are much less and there’s a lot more space and time at your disposal, but remember that working from also requires a lot of discipline and strict time management. There’s potential to make big money as a home-based travel agent, so be productive and reap the rewards!
